DPRK Program

It aims to achieve practical progress through searching for various strategic ways of support to solve the chronic food shortage and structural poverty in North Korea.

After North Korea faced severe floods in 1995, Caritas Internationalis initiated a major program of humanitarian assistance in response to the serious food security crisis in North Korea. Caritas Korea has been supporting North Korea with variety of projects through both Caritas Internationalis and direct partnership with North Korea since 1995. Caritas Korea received the mandate as a facilitating partner of Caritas Internationalis’ DPRK Program for the Caritas network to coordinate the Program in 2006.

Caritas Internationalis’ DPRK Program

- is a Program of the international Caritas Network for which Caritas Korea is responsible as the facilitating partner
- links humanitarian assistance with development cooperation in the medium and long term focusing on poverty
reduction and local community development in the DPRK
- is to work in cooperation with Korean Catholic groups and organizations which are involved in assistance programs
for the peopel of the DPRK.
- is to administer and execute its budget in accordance with international standards, for its transparency and efficiency.

Food Aid for Community Development
  • Background

    To recover embankments, dig waterways and expand irrigation facilities in order to develop prevent floods, increase agricultural production
